Why?

Again… I’m going to be a fascist, censoring dictator on this post. Be damn well careful how you comment. I don’t even want debate on it. Is that that clear? No? Then I’ll just ban you. Also, trigger warning for Pamela’s post and language warning for my comments beneath the quote and link.

I just don’t get it. Why does this have to happen? Why do men have to do this? Why can’t we be better than this?

This rambling essay attempts to give voice to my struggles with #RipplesOfDoubt, and with the realities I’ve faced as a woman in science and skepticism. This is a piece written with too much honesty and not a lot of poetry. It is written because there are men out their throwing around phrases like, “I can’t be a misogynist – look how I intervened when that guy was about to grab that chicks boobs! Sure, I didn’t report it or anything, but I stopped it, and that is enough.”

No, it’s not enough.

Read the rest. FUCKING READ IT!!!!!!!!! READ IT AND THINK LONG AND HARD ABOUT WHERE WE’RE GOING!!!!!!!! IT’S TOO MANY PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!  TOO MANY WOMEN!!!!!!!!! TOO MANY STORIES!!!!!!!!!! THIS HAS TO STOP!!!!!!!!! IT FUCKING HAS TO!!!!!!!!!!

I’m seriously ready to just stop identifying myself as a Skeptic. There are way too many creepy assholes ruining it.

And BTW… if Pamela’s story sound familiar, there’s probably a really good reason for that.

  1. Again? Argh.

You’d think they’d learn by now. Does someone have to call Fox News and say ‘hey, a bunch of atheists sexually assaulted people, your viewers would love this’?

    • I’m starting to think that maybe this is exactly what has to happen. Maybe they’ll stop when their shit becomes front-page (inter)national news.

Except I’m not really comfortable putting the victims through that without their consent, and I’ve a feeling that most wouldn’t, and that’d obviously be totally fine if they don’t.
